Anyway, Friday was Graduation Day. Of course, not the joyous of occasions for me, and neither a sad one. Rather it was a depressing one, seeing people making rounds and taking final photos with their friends while I’m left to dwell on the fact that the chance of having a bittersweet graduation day has already gone since missing it a year ago. Oh well.

3 years in NYJC, eh. During the first orientation in 2007, Mr Kwek mentioned that each of us should set a target of making 150 friends during our time here. I think I’ve gone past that mark, lol.

Of course, true friends are another part of the equation, but that’s another story.

So I had my ups and downs during my 3 years in NYJC. Perhaps more downs than ups – poor results as a result of my illness striking during exam times hence missing out on H3 Chem, my first rejection, quarrels with the AVA President (though we already made up), having to miss out most of my 2nd year, having no friends to rely on this year, thus losing the motivation to study and hence more poor results, blah blah- but still the good moments I have in JC are worth remembering.

Three main groups of people worth mentioning:

Firstly, 0722. The times I spent with them makes up most of my good moments in JC. Having funny conservations and teasing everyday, they were the reason why I looked forward to coming to school everyday. The guys played soccer once almost on every week, and we often go out for random lunches. Wonderful bunch of people to hang out with, though most of us have already drifted apart thanks to our busy schedules.

Secondly, my dear AVA club. At first, I had not even a single thought of joining AVA as I was initially in ODAC. But for some reason, I decided to quit and go over to AVA, to accompany my best pal Kenrick who was CCA-less at that time. And boy, that was a good decision. Other than quitting ODAC probably saving my life, I had lots of fun in AVA. Being a small CCA, we were quite united – from funny, experienced seniors, to my own peers, and to my juniors- we had fun while doing duties from school events. Not only that, we have a strong alumni and gatherings at least once a year where former and current AVA members come together to catch up and have fun. And during my adaptation period with 0824, there were my only family then left in NYJC who kept me entertained, so thank you 31st batch of NY AVA peeps. All the best for A Levels!

Thirdly, 0824 peeps. Though I only spent less than a year with them, I must say that they are a vibrant bunch of people to be with, despite me being one of the only two guys in the class. Sometimes, I regret not spending much time to get to know them better, so I apologise for being a dummy and blur-sotong at times. The girls are all more hardworking than me who’s still slacking off watching and blogging anime with only 3 weeks to go before A Levels. So all the best for A Levels, and may your days of toil and sweat pay off dearly in the end.

Next, I would like to thank the following teachers:

Mdm Shahida: For being such a caring teacher with a positive mindset which bodes well with 0824 peeps. Fantastic GP tutor too.

Mr Low: For spamming and threatening us with Chem, but it’s all for the greater good

Mr Wong: BEST MATHS TEACHER EVER in the whole of my JC life. I’ve never seen someone doing his job with so much commitment before.

Mrs Chong: After Nathan’s massacre of 0722, she was a welcome change to me. Yet another caring teacher.


Miss Lee: My Chem and CT tutor then whom I respect greatly. The one that visited me often during my days in hospital to provide encouragement, and even went all the way to my house to deliver me Chem SPA materials. The Chem rep of 0722 salutes you!

Mr Loo: The other CT and PW tutor who cares and motivates.

Mrs Heng: The person I see as my mother-figure in school. AVA teacher-in-charge and my Physics teacher this year(though I zoned out in her Physics classes). I think I’m the only one in the AVA 30th EXCO who has never been scolded by her, LOL. She never fails to provide some LULZ with her lame jokes, and she’s yet another teacher who cares greatly for me. *Salute*

Mr Yee: The person I see as my father-figure in school. My first 3 months GP and CT tutor, AVA teacher-in-charge. He was the one who helped me in my appeal back to NYJC after 3 sucky days in AJC. Nice person to chat with; someone who you can really invite out for coffee to have a conversation with. And he always never fails to ask how I am coping with school life. *Salute*

And to other teachers who have taught me, thank you too.

On the whole, I would say my JC life is not as pleasant as I expected to be, but still it has been quite a learning and fruitful experience.

Now onwards to slay fucking A Levels and get that bloody passport to university.

Seriously, it’s damn hard to rely only on yourself to do all the shit.

For example, it’s DAMN frustrating when you are stuck on a Maths question and have no one to turn to for immediate help. You’ll simply lose interest after a while and practically give up on doing anything for the rest of the day.

2 weeks to make it or break it. I wonder which path I’ll end up taking.

Maybe a trip down to zhss during Teacher’s Day Eve might do some good.
